Updated: May 24, 2021
Summer’s here! And all the readers out there know what this means. This is the time for vacation and relaxation and what better companion to have than a book? Summer blesses us all with a plenty of time in our hands to pursue stuff that we like. Hence, during this time, readers start forming their book lists. Well, I have done it for ya. I’ve made a list of 5 books u can start reading this summer. Some of these also include series in case you want a longer commitment. And those of you who aren’t readers, what better time to start?

#1 TRULY DEVIOUS by Maureen Johnson
This one’s for the mystery lovers. A total page turner that’ll keep you gripped till the very last chapter. With the right amount of suspense and an amazingly exciting plot, this book followed by the other two books in this series will make you lose the track of time and reality. The fourth and the latest book with the same crew but a different mystery comes out this June so hurry up!

Here’s what Goodreads has to say:
Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. It was founded by Albert Ellingham, an early twentieth century tycoon, who wanted to make a wonderful place full of riddles, twisting pathways, and gardens. “A place,” he said, “where learning is a game.”
Shortly after the school opened, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. The only real clue was a mocking riddle listing methods of murder, signed with the frightening pseudonym “Truly, Devious.” It became one of the great unsolved crimes of American history.
True-crime aficionado Stevie Bell is set to begin her first year at Ellingham Academy, and she has an ambitious plan: She will solve this cold case.

#2 THE HATE YOU GIVE by Angie Thomas

This one’s a stand-alone. This book has a good balance of dark and light. It has anger, frustration, fury while having optimism, determination and transformation. This book highlights the judgements that the people of color have to deal with along with its consequences. It inspires gathering the strength to bring change and justice. it's also been adapted into a well made movie by the same name so there's that too. I honestly really liked the book.
Check out what Goodreads has to say:
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr. But what Starr does—or does not—say
could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.
#3 THE CRUEL PRINCE by Holly Black
The first book in the series The Folk Of The Air trilogy. Author Holly Black has represented the book by a very strong and fearless female character named Jude. It’ll take you on
a journey full of love, deceit, hatred, passion and of course, cruelty, all happening in the world of fairy. Although I feel like the ending could have been a little bit better. It wasn’t as satisfactory as you would expect but overall it’s a pretty good series.

You will get to read about the physical as well as mental challenges posed to a mortal living with the fairies. This book truly paints a very unique and different picture of the fairy world, unlike anything you would expect. With that being said, the main character Jude is no Aurora either.

Lets see what Goodreads has to say:
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten
years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
#4 CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET by Sophie Kinsella
Now this is an old one but how could I not include a solid rom-com in this list. I’m sure that just by reading the name Sophie Kinsella a lot of you would know what to expect from this book. It’s a bundle of funny and aww moments. It’ll keep you entertained the whole time you’re reading it. One thing that I really like about this book is how imperfect the main character, Emma is, because unrealistically flawless characters affect the relatability factor. Just sit with a mug full of coffee and begin this journey with Sophie Kinsella.

Check out what Goodreads has to say:
Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets: Secrets from her boyfriend: I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken. Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world: I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is. Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.…Until Emma comes face-to-face with Jack
Harper, the company's elusive CEO, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her...
#5 SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo
This one’s become the talk of the town after the recent release of the Netflix show Shadow and Bone which is the prequel of this duology. Six of crow is the first book. It has some excellent characters with great relationship progression over the course of the two books. All the characters form this strong bonding which enables strong team spirit feels to kick in. The crew is one of the best and most diverse crews you would come across as each character is unique because of their individual talents, interests and backgrounds . It’s a mixture of everything, suspense, adventure, romance, sacrifice and action. In my honest opinion, I would say that the series is slightly overrated. Its an amazing series, one must read it if they ever get the time to but don’t look up too many reviews because they lead to very high expectations from the book and eventually slight disappointment. Nonetheless, in a nutshell, it’s a worth reading duology and is well written.

Here’s what Goodreads has to say:
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .

A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
